At J.A.N.E. — the Juried Association of Neurotherapeutics and Ethics — our mission is to support thoughtful, ethical advancement in neurotherapeutic research so that mental health treatments can become safer, more effective, and more compassionate for the people who rely on them.
J.A.N.E. was born from a deeply personal belief: that progress in psychiatric and neurological treatment should never come at the expense of human dignity. Too often, people seeking help are asked to endure treatments with difficult side effects, unclear outcomes, or limited explanations of how those treatments may affect them as individuals. We believe patients deserve better — not just more options, but better-studied, ethically guided options.
Through careful review, responsible funding, and a commitment to transparency, J.A.N.E. seeks to support early-stage research that explores how neurotherapeutic treatments affect different people in different ways. Our goal is to help move the field toward care that is not only scientifically sound, but also humane, accountable, and centered on the lived experience of patients and their families.
At its heart, J.A.N.E. exists to bridge science and conscience — helping ensure that innovation in mental health care is guided by both evidence and ethics.
